The tenth British Animation Awards were declared at a ceremony on Friday evening at the BFI Southbank in London. Oscar-nominated children's favorite Room on the Broom has won a prize at the British Animation Awards. Room on the Broom, the animated adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's picture book won in the Animation category, which was sponsored by Toon Boom. It brought together a voice cast including Gillian Anderson, Rob Brydon, Martin Clunes, Simon Pegg, Timothy Spall, David Walliams and Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins (Blue Jasmine).

Timmy Time triumphed in Pre-school Animation and the BAFTA for Pre-School Live Action went to CBeebies Ugly Duckling. Other wins went to the writing team behind The Amazing World of Gumball; and Adventure Time won in the International category. In the Feature Film competition Brave, Paranorman and Wreck-It Ralph were all beaten to the award by Life of Pi.

Room on the Broom has been nominated for a 2013 international Kids Emmy Award, in the pre-school category, and has already won a number of top accolades including: Royal Television Society Awards – Best Children's Program, Annecy Animation Festival – Cristal for Best Television Production, and TIFF Kids International Film Festival – Best Animated Short Film.

Room on the Broom follows on from the success that Magic Light Pictures had with The Gruffalo and The Gruffalo’s Child, with The Gruffalo winning over 15 awards, including the Prix Jeunesse 2010, and nominations for an Academy Award, a BAFTA and the Cartoon D’Or. It has been sold to over 30 broadcasters airing across over 167 nations globally, and translated into 16 languages. The film has had cinema runs in the UK and US and opens across France on 27th November, distributed by Les Films du Preau.
