Mr. Peabody & Sherman Movie Review

March 01st, 2014

mr. img.jpgMr. Peabody & Sherman, movie there is something sweet and acquitted that will touch the audience with its simple charm in an age of high end special effects and heavy graphics. Ty Burrell is the voice of Mr. Peabody a super intelligent dog who is raising a seven year old boy Sherman (Charles). Any father, he desires his son to be smart and well-informed. To assist him know about the history of the world, he builds a time machine, taking them to several epochs in time. Nevertheless, the spin in the story comes when Sherman finds another use to Mr. Peabody's invention, which gets him into trouble.

The movie is based on the characters from Peabody’s Improbable History of the television series The Rocky and Bullwinkle Depict that was aired in the 1960s. There is a main rework in the story with regards to the kinship shown between Mr. Peabody and Sherman. In the film, Sherman is Mr. Peabody’s adopted son and their relationship is beautiful, to say the least. Mr. Peabody goes from being the world’s smartest being to a father that puts everything to test.

Mr. Peabody & Sherman movie has a few heartwarming moments for adults too. The idea to use a journey back in time and the reference to historical figures and memorials is brilliant. Burrell, who is a household name thanks to his popular TV program, is brilliant in his role as the protective dog. Minkoff’s animation team has done a brilliant job of blending the old with the new. The voices of the star cast aptly suit the characters and their versatile modulation and intonation makes the characters very appealing.

The time travel gets exhausting after a while with too many artifacts and historical personalities getting mixed up. Minkoff, who directed the classic Lion King, tries to create the same father and son emotional bond with Sherman and Peabody. Nevertheless, the effort is not quite successful.
Visually, the animation and 3D effects are good, but not outstanding and there is a balance in the retro and modern design components. The huge headed characters with fundamental features and facial expressions are increased with lighting and super rich colors. Kids should love this one with its simple message and some colorful animation.

The Verdict

Mr. Peabody & Sherman is innocuous fare, but it is not one of DreamWorks' best efforts, and should appeal chiefly to younger kids.
